Visa Categories
HeyVisa supports the most common short-stay and long-stay visa categories worldwide. The category drives which documents are requested, which signals are weighted, and which recommendations are generated.
Supported categories
| Purpose value | Category | Typical destinations | Required documents |
|---|---|---|---|
tourism | Tourist / Schengen Type C | EU, UK, US, CA, AU, JP | Passport, finances, itinerary, accommodation, insurance |
study | Student | US (F-1), UK (Student), DE, FR, CA | Admission letter, finances, accommodation, language proof |
work | Work | US (H-1B/L-1), UK Skilled Worker, DE Blue Card | Employer sponsor, contract, qualifications, finances |
transit | Transit | Schengen A, UK DATV, US C-1 | Passport, onward ticket, destination visa (if any) |
business | Business | Schengen C, US B-1, UK Visitor | Invitation, employer letter, itinerary, finances |
How category affects scoring
Categories change the document checklist and the weight of each signal. For study, finances and admission documents dominate. For tourism, intent and return-likelihood signals weigh more. For work, employer and qualification signals dominate.
Destination-specific behaviour
Inside each category we apply destination-specific rules. A US B-1/B-2 report, for example, runs additional checks for prior overstays and ties-to-home-country signals; a Schengen Type C report runs the 90/180-day calculation against any disclosed prior travel.
Not seeing your category?
We add new categories every quarter. If you need a visa type that is not listed, contact your account manager or write to api@heyvisa.com with the destination and category — beta access is usually granted within two business days.
