Invitation versus sponsorship
The two are related but distinct. An invitation letter confirms that someone is hosting your visit; a sponsorship letter confirms that someone is paying for it. A single person can do both, but the file should make clear which role they are playing.
What an invitation letter should contain
- The host's full name, address, and immigration status in the country.
- Their relationship to you and how you know each other.
- The purpose and exact dates of your visit.
- Where you will stay and who covers which costs.
- The host's signature and contact details.
What a sponsorship letter adds
If a sponsor is funding the trip, the letter should state clearly what they are covering — flights, accommodation, daily expenses — and be backed by their own financial documents.
Make the letter verifiable
Attach supporting proof: a copy of the host's ID or residence permit, evidence of their address, and their bank statements if they are sponsoring you. A letter that can be checked is far stronger than one that simply makes claims.
