Bank statement requirements: how to present your finances

Almost every visa application stands or falls on the bank statements behind it. The goal is not just to show money — it is to show money an officer can believe is genuinely yours and genuinely available.

What officers look for

  • An account in your own name, with your name clearly printed.
  • Several months of history — usually three to six.
  • A closing balance that comfortably covers your trip.
  • Regular, explainable activity rather than a single dramatic deposit.

Presenting statements cleanly

Order matters more than people expect. A tidy file is easier to trust:

  1. Provide official statements from the bank, not screenshots.
  2. Include every page, in order, with the bank's name and your account number visible.
  3. If statements are in Turkish only and the mission requires it, add certified translations.
  4. Highlight nothing dishonestly — let the numbers speak for themselves.

Explaining large or unusual deposits

The red-flag deposit
A big deposit just before applying is the single most common trigger for doubt. If you have one, attach a short note and proof of its source — a property sale, a bonus, a documented gift.

If someone else funds your trip

When a sponsor pays, their statements join your file alongside a sponsorship letter and proof of your relationship. The same standards apply: their money should look stable and genuinely theirs.
